The Roads Department designs, constructs, and manages County roads, bridges, and associated structures. Service and maintenance garages are in Accident, Grantsville, and Oakland.
The Garrett County Sanitary District was incorporated in 1962 (Code Environment Article, secs. 9-601 through 9-699). In April 2003, the Board of County Commissioners became the governing body of the Sanitary District. The Board now operates as the Department of Public Utilities (Code Environment Article, sec. 9-629).
The Public Utilities Department provides services for water and sewerage.
