GOVERNOR

GOVERNOR'S COORDINATING OFFICES

OFFICE OF THE DEAF & HARD OF HEARING

ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

Authorized in October 2001, the Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing began operation in July 2002 (Chapter 537, Acts of 2001). The Office advocates for and promotes the general welfare of individuals in Maryland who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf and blind. In doing so, it provides, advocates, and coordinates the adoption of public policies, regulations, and programs that will benefit these individuals.

In November 2007, the Office began issuing a Monthly Bulletin to inform citizens, service providers, and policy makers of Office programs.

The Office is headed by a Director who is appointed by the Governor with Senate advice and consent (Code State Government Article, secs. 9-2401 through 9-2407).
